Crowning Glory

The play has been specially written for Purley Players to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

It is set at the time of the Coronation in 1953 and the action takes place over two Acts.

Act 1 is one week before the Coronation in the home of the Chairman of the Celebrations Committee and introduces all the characters with their funny little ways. Act 2 is centred around the Carnival celebrations on Coronation Day on the Village Green.

The mystery is that there is the theft of a very valuable piece of jewellery belonging to the Lord of the Manor, Lord Alistair Smythe-Jones.  Each character has a strong motive for stealing the item and it is the audience’s job to work out who did it and why.

The style of the evening will follow Purley Players’ Murder Mystery Evenings with a three course supper being served during the evening.

In addition there will be a small quiz on each table. All the questions being based on happenings during the Queen’s reign and points gained from correct answers will contribute to the winning table.

The whole atmosphere will be party time and celebration involving everyone. We would like to encourage our audience to come dressed in 1953 costumes to reflect the time of the Coronation if they would like to.
